How to Measure Your Dog for Clothes

How to Measure Your Dog for Clothes

Finding a comfortable fit starts with three measurements: back length, chest and neck. Use a soft measuring tape and have your dog stand naturally on a flat surface.

Measure each area at least twice to check your results, especially if your dog moves around. Let the tape rest gently against their coat without pulling it tight or flattening the fur.

1. Back Length

Measure along the back from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. Don’t include the head or tail.

2. Chest

Measure all the way around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs. Keep the tape level and comfortably snug.

3. Neck

Measure around the base of the neck, where a collar would normally sit, without squeezing.

Check the Size Chart

Compare your measurements with the size chart on the individual product page, checking whether it uses centimetres or inches. Sizes vary between styles, so don’t choose by breed or weight alone.

The clothing illustration shows the corresponding areas: the neck opening, chest and back length. Flat chest width is not the same as chest circumference, which goes all the way around. Check whether the chart lists your dog’s body measurements or the garment’s measurements, and follow its fit guidance.

Between sizes? A larger size may offer more room, but check the back length and neck fit too. Your dog should be able to walk, sit and turn comfortably.
